Online shopping exceeded 1.4 billion EUR in 2015 in Romania

Infografic2015-SilkwebAccording to the main Romanian e-commerce players estimations as well as the estimations of the Romanian e-commerce market authority GPeC, the total value of Romanian online retail has grown from 1.1 billion EUR in 2014 to over 1.4 billion EUR in 2015. Some companies consider the value to be closer to 1.5 billion EUR. This figure only reflects physical goods purchased online (disregarding their nature) and excludes services, utilities paid online, plane tickets, hotel or holiday reservations, travel, event tickets etc.

Researchers Examine Effect of Return Policies on Consumer Behavior

In 2014, product returns totaled about $280 million across all U.S. retailers. New research from UT Dallas examined existing studies on return policies to quantify the policies’ effect on consumers’ purchase and return behavior. The study recently was published online in the Journal of Retailing. The meta-analysis is the first attempt to understand the return policy literature quantitatively and prove that lenient policies positively affect purchase and return decisions.

Auto ads move from one website on another

As a result of the decision taken by OLX.ro to ask for a fee for auto ads, the website lost some of its clients, while Lajumate.ro gained customers. Here are the figures:

  • January 1st – OLX.ro has more than 70.000 ads in the Auto category
    February 1st – OLX.ro has 68.917 ads ↓
  • January 1st -Lajumate.ro has approx. 40.000 ads in the Auto category
    February 1st -Lajumate.ro has 70.653 ads ↑

Fashion is in the online top

Fashion DaysFashion Days estimates that the online fashion market raised by 20% in 2015, as compared to 2014. The IT&C category is still on the first place, followed by fashion, home & deco and children products. The online fashion market in Romania was worth around 170 million euros last year, because several new players entered the market.
